  1. Installing America Online

  3. To install America Online, simply run the Install America Online Now! file and the version of America Online that best matches your system will be automatically installed.

  7. What's on this CD-ROM?

  9. There are two America Online installers on this CD-ROM:

  11. * America Online 4.0
  12. * America Online 3.0
  13.  
  14. If you run the Install America Online Now! file, it will run the installer that best matches your system.

  16. The system requirements for each version are listed below:

  18. America Online 4.0 for Macintosh System Requirements         
  19.  
  20. * 16 Megabytes of built-in RAM    
  21. * System 7.1 minimum            
  22. * 68040 or better Macintosh            
  23. * 30 Megabytes available hard disk space            
  24. * 640 x 480 Monitor, 256 colors or better            
  25. * 14.4 or faster modem        
  26.  
  27. America Online 3.0 for Macintosh System Requirements         
  28.  
  29. * 8 Megabytes of built-in RAM    
  30. * System 7.1 minimum            
  31. * 68030 or better Macintosh            
  32. * 15 Megabytes available hard disk space            
  33. * 640 x 480 Monitor, 256 colors or better

  36. Note: AOL recommends using Virtual Memory if you have less than 24 MB of built-in memory (RAM). If you have less than 24 MB of RAM, you must use Virtual Memory to increase your available RAM to a minimum of 24 MB.

  38. How To Turn on Virtual Memory:

  40. 1. From the Apple menu select Controls Panels, then select Memory. The Memory Control Panel window appears.        
  41. 2. Under Virtual Memory, select On.         
  42. 3. Under Virtual Memory, use the Up arrow to increase the memory to 24 or higher.    
  43. 4. Restart your computer for the change to take effect.

  45. If you turn on Virtual Memory, check the free space on your Hard Drive to ensure that you still have 30 MB of free space on your Hard Drive.

In addition to the America Online installer files, there is a folder titled CD Games Installer ƒ. If you install America Online 4.0 from this CD, this folder contains an application that will install additional bonus software to enhance your AOL experience. You'll be prompted to install the software after you complete your first session on AOL.

  49. How to specifically install America Online 3.0 or America Online 4.0?

  51. If you need to specifically install either AOL 3.0 or AOL 4.0 you can run the individual installer files from the following locations on this CD-ROM:
